New Car Registration in Telangana State

I am sharing my experiences for New Car Registration. This was done in Kukatpally RTA (Unit Office), Hyderabad in March 2022 and most probably should be the same across other RTA offices in the state.

Documents Required:

1. Slot booking receipt

2. Special Number Reservation confirmation (if applied)

3. Form 20 (Will be given in duplicate if the vehicle is covered by finance. Ensure that there are sign/stamp from the Bank at the appropriate places. Sign as registered owner at the appropriate places on this form.)

4. Form 21 (Signed by the dealer)

5. Form 22 (given by the vehicle manufacturer duly facsimiled)

6. Life Tax Receipt

7. Temporary Registration Certificate

8. Invoice from the Dealer

9. Insurance copy

10. PAN Card copy and Original

11. Local Address proof copy and Original (like Aadhaar, etc.)

12. Pencil/Eraser/Sharpener for tracing the Chassis Number

Documents Gathering:

Within 2 weeks of delivery, received all the documents from the dealer.

Reservation of Special Number:

1. If you need to reserve special number, check the numbers available in your respective RTO office here. https://transport.telangana.gov.in/html/reservationnumber.php

2. Apply online for the same (8am-1pm) and participate in the bidding if more than 1 person applies for the same number (2pm-4pm). 

3. If there is no competition for your number, you will get a confirmation SMS by 2pm (start of bidding time). Bidding Status is known by 5pm.

5. Refund for unsuccessful bidding gets credited in 7 working days as per Helpline but usually comes in about 3 working days.

Process:

1. Book an online slot for "New Vehicle Registration" through this link.

2. Go to Counter marked as New Registration (Counter-2) at 10:30am.

3. Person outside window starts verifying documents at 10:45 and ask to wait for your name to be called.

4. After about 20 min, your name is called. He will handover the application and receipt and ask to go to Counter-3 for Photo and Sign and then Vehicle Inspection.

5. Go to Counter-3 and get your photo and sign on the device.

6. Go to Inspection officer sitting in a tent and he will ask to get the Chassis number tracing on the form 20 at the marked location.

Note: Ensure you are aware of the location of the Chassis number for your vehicle. Please bring pencil and eraser with you.

7. After getting the chassis number tracing, get your vehicle to be inspected by an officer. He will ask to read the Chassis number. He will check the tyres and ask to make half window open to check for any tint film. That's it. He will sign the documents and ask to submit in the tent. Number plates will be coming to showroom in 15 days and RC will be delivered by post.

8. Submit the signed application form in the tent and keep the receipt as acknowledgement.

After Registration day:

1. Got a call from Showroom after 2 working days for number plate availability. Go to showroom and get the number plates fixed.

2. RC usually takes about a month to be delivered through Speed Post. You can use the RTA m-wallet to download your RC.

3. Update the vehicle number in your Fastag through your issuing channel (customer care or service request or E-Mail). You need to send the RC copy for the change.
